health codes & bare feet

No health codes prohibit barefoot patrons in any public areas, including restaurants. Period.

"No Bare Feet by Order of the Health Department." You've probably heard something like this, or even seen it written on a sign at the entrance to a building, and it's simply not true.1 Health codes do not address the conduct of patrons at restaurants, stores, libraries or any other venue. The one exception is smoking -- many laws prohibit lighting up indoors or where food is served, because secondhand smoke impacts the health of other patrons.
